Hyderabad Police Commissioner (Retd) Talks Terrorism and National Security at Keshav Guidance Program

How often do we take minor events seriously or report suspicious activities to security agencies? Sadly, the answer is usually ‘No,’ and this negligence allows terrorism to thrive,” said Mr. Vivek Deshpande, retired Police Commissioner of the Indian Intelligence Department, during the 17th Keshav Guidance Lecture at Sanskriti Samvardhan Mandal, Sagroli, on December 21, 2024. He emphasized the power of citizen vigilance in preventing security threats.

The program, designed to keep employees and students informed on national issues, has previously covered topics like the Agricultural Bill and Article 370. Mr. Deshpande shared insights from his career, including leading a 1998 Hyderabad anti-terror operation and serving in critical roles post-retirement until 2009.

Touching on global terrorism, he discussed major attacks, key organizations, and countermeasures. Answering questions on India-Pakistan ties, Jihad, and the Waqf Board, he urged attendees to stay informed and vigilant, reinforcing their role in safeguarding national security.
