Mastitis Prevention Initiative Boosts Dairy Health in Umbraj Village

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Farm Science Center) in Umbraj, Kandhar Taluka, launched a crucial initiative to prevent mastitis, a painful disease that reduces milk production and causes financial losses for farmers. On December 17th, 2024, as part of the On-Farm Testing (OFT) program, 15 local farmers were trained on maintaining udder hygiene using 'Chlorit Tablets and Dip Cups,' a simple and effective method to reduce the risk of mastitis. Farmers quickly adopted this method and saw positive results.

Additionally, under the Front-Line Demonstration (FLD) program, the farmers were provided with California Mastitis Test (CMT) kits, which allow for early detection of mastitis, enabling timely treatment before major issues arise. This initiative is helping farmers ensure the health of their cows, boosting milk production, and minimizing losses. The program highlighted how easy-to-implement solutions can significantly improve both animal welfare and farm productivity.
